My story, and a little about mallows too!

My Story is born from a mixed bag. I have suffered a life long lymphatic disease and cancer that has changed my outlook on life in many ways. Once I finished my bachelor’s degree in art education I found myself working as a teacher, then having a baby, then caring for my mother in law while in hospice at our home, then another baby and the cherry on top, going through treatment for breast cancer by the age of 31. After a while I decided to return to working as an art teacher but my passion for creating and didn’t stop at teaching. I have a small notebook that I keep my “ideas for restaurants or food trucks” in my kitchen drawer and add names of menu items and what they would contain. I add to this book and sometimes just joke about “When we have a ___ restaurant…..we’ll serve ___” My family and I laugh at the ridiculous names of my made up resurants…. Our hotdog stand is called “Double Dog Dare” and our signiture dog has…you guessed it, two hotdogs on the bun. Thre will be a Tripple Dog dare (the hot dog to end all hot dogs!) The Olivia dog contains french fries on it as my youngest daughter dresses up any food she’s eating with fries inside the bun. We’ll have the “Dirty Dawg”- a chili dog and so on. I have about 15 different names for our dogs and what’s on them. Then I have one of my OG ideas that I tried to sell the idea to my grandfather who was quite the entrepreneur himself, mind you this was more than 20 years ago and I think the idea is more catcing today than it was back then. This “first Business” that I dreamed up was called the “Ice Crem Paw-lor” A place for you to get Ice cream with your dog. There would even be a topping bar for Fido! many many ideas later I found myself on summer break and needing to make some money for the summer and the urge hit me stronger than ever. I NEED to start my own business NOW, not in 10 years,…not after I retire, but now and Mallow was born! but why Marshmallows? I had been making home made mallow since 2009 when I came across an Alton Brown recipe while trying to find some unique candies for my Christmas box of goodies that I have made since I was in high school. Wow! I can MAKE marshmallows? Yes and they were WAY better than the mallows at the store in the bag. My mom is quite a marshmallow fan and absolutely loved them. the next year I put cinnamon in them and everyone (except my loving hubby, who is not a fan of marshmallow) loved them even more. My mom commented saying “when they were toasted they were the best thing she’d ever tasted!” the cinnamon added what I always thought was missing- actual flavor in a marshmallow. She then requested toasted coconut mallows which the following year at Christmas I made, they were…well fabulous! I dipped mallows in bougie chocolate and added different flavors but never really thought I could do more than make some for the holidays. One day while visiting a fancy kitchen shop I saw a single snowflake mallow selling for $8.00! now this was more than 15 years ago and that seems high even now! It wasn’t thick, it wasn’t. gooey in the middle it was just a snowflake shape and seemed the standard mallow like you get in that bag at the store. Well years passed and I began seeing video shorts on making strange marshmallow flavors at these company factories, “I could do that” was my thought, I could make new flavors and it would be fun and different sometimes delicious and sometimes maybe just a “dare” flavor for fun. Fast forward to now and I am jumping in with both feet! I have more ideas about Mallow than I can even write down fast enough!. Dare flavors just for fun, layered mallows, Krispie treats made with my flavored mallows, a monthly mallow and as soon as I get this puppy up and running…advent calendars What a sweet gift!
